Lebanese President Joseph Aoun has condemned Israeli airstrikes on the city of Nabatieh and surrounding areas that caused civilian deaths and significant material damage.

TodayPress TV reports that the President’s press service made the statement.

“We place full responsibility for this new phase of escalation on Israel. We demand that the US and the UN take immediate measures to stop these violations, exert pressure on the Jewish state and compel it to comply with the ceasefire agreement,” the leader stressed in the statement.

Aoun said the Israeli strikes went beyond ordinary bombardment and were aimed at paralysing life in the southern region:

“These attacks targeted financial and commercial establishments where civilians were carrying out their daily activities, as well as hospitals and medical centres.”
