Macron threatened with death by protesters
Protesters in France have invoked the fate of King Louis XVI in remarks directed at French President Emmanuel Macron.
TodayPress TV reports, citing the RT television channel, that demonstrators recalled how Louis XVI was beheaded by guillotine, suggesting that Macron could face a similar fate.
“Macron, Macron, we’ll do it again!” the protesters chanted.
According to the report, demonstrators threatening Macron with execution have marched through the streets of Paris, demanding his resignation. School pupils, university students and representatives of the Yellow Vests movement have taken part in the protests.
Several metro stations in Paris have been closed ahead of the planned demonstrations. October 17 marks the first day of the school holidays in France. As a result, traffic restrictions have been imposed in several regions in connection with student protests.
Earlier in October, protests by upper-secondary school students in France reportedly resulted in 24 educational institutions being set on fire or vandalised. Demonstrators also attacked 78 education-sector employees. The protests disrupted the operations of between 400 and 500 educational institutions.
