ATTENTION: Nuclear strike on Iran? – Public issued urgent warning
Iranian state television and news agencies are broadcasting a video explaining how people should respond in the event of a nuclear strike.
TodayPress TV reports that the video provides a series of instructions aimed at protecting people’s lives during a nuclear explosion and in its aftermath.
Citizens are advised not to look directly at the intense flash of an explosion. If they are outdoors and cannot immediately reach a building, they should lie flat on the ground behind any available obstacle and protect their head and face.
Once the blast wave has passed, people are instructed to enter the nearest building, avoid staying outdoors to watch or photograph the incident, and not seek shelter inside vehicles. After entering a building, they are advised to move to the basement or an interior area away from windows and external walls, close all doors and windows, and switch off air-conditioning and ventilation systems that draw in outside air.
The video also outlines measures to take in the event of radioactive contamination. People who have been outdoors are advised to remove their outer clothing without shaking it, place it in a sealed bag and keep it away from others, then wash with warm water and soap. The instructions also emphasise switching off air-conditioning and ventilation systems, washing hair with ordinary shampoo and avoiding hair conditioner.
In addition, people are advised to consume packaged food and bottled water and be prepared to remain in shelter for at least 24 hours. However, the passage of 24 hours should not automatically be taken to mean that an area is safe. People are advised to leave shelter only after receiving instructions from the relevant authorities.
The guidance also says that if a fire breaks out in a building or there is a risk of collapse, people should move to a safer shelter. Families are encouraged to discuss these procedures in advance.
