The Czech government has approved a concept for building up the country’s armed forces by 2040.

TodayPress TV reports that the information was published by the “Denikn” portal.

Under the new concept, the country plans to establish a fully professional, contract-based military, increase the number of active-duty personnel to 32,000 and maintain a further 15,000 in the active reserve. The plan also prioritizes the acquisition of modern unmanned aerial vehicles  and the strengthening of the country’s national air defence system.

The document emphasizes that Europe’s security situation has deteriorated significantly in recent years and that responsibility for Europe’s defence is shifting from the United States to European countries.

Czech President Petr Pavel also attended the Cabinet meeting. According to Czech media reports, he criticized the concept, describing it as unrealistic. He said it failed to meet the fundamental objective of ensuring the armed forces’ full combat readiness.
