A woman in the United Kingdom suffering from kidney failure received a kidney transplant thanks to an unknown man who happened to see her appeal for help on social media and decided to become a donor.

TodayPress TV reports, citing the BBC, that Karen Davey had been suffering from kidney failure and was unable to find a suitable donor among her relatives or friends. She subsequently posted about her situation on social media. The woman said her greatest fear was leaving her four children without a mother.

The post was accidentally seen by 60-year-old Gary Summerfield. He had never met Karen before. However, after learning about her condition, he decided to undergo testing and was found to be a suitable donor.

“I thought this woman needed one of my kidneys more than I needed two,” Summerfield said.

Doctors performed a six-hour kidney transplant operation at the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff.

For Karen, this was the second life-saving transplant she has undergone. Around 10 years ago, at the age of 31, she received a heart transplant after suffering a heart attack.

The medications she subsequently took following the transplant later caused problems with her kidneys. After the new operation, the woman said she felt “100 times better.”
