Ilham Aliyev: “Azerbaijanism is the ideology that drives us forward”

Our national and moral values, our Azerbaijani values, are above everything else for us.

TodayPress TV reports that President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev made these remarks in his address to the nation from Khankendi on the occasion of Victory Day.

The President stated that Azerbaijan’s national and moral values are what drive the country forward:

“The Azerbaijani state was built on this foundation. For centuries, we have carried these values in our hearts, protected them and will pass them on to future generations as a legacy. The ideology of Azerbaijanism is the philosophy underlying all our achievements. Azerbaijanism is the philosophy that unites all our citizens. It is the ideology that drives us forward.

All ethnic groups and representatives of all religions live together in Azerbaijan as one family. What unites us is citizenship, solidarity and the ideology of Azerbaijanism. This is our national idea. I want to reiterate that this is the path leading us into the future. I believe that the public and political stability, positive atmosphere, drive for development and the unity of our society around a common goal that prevail in Azerbaijan today are rarely seen in the world today”.

Ilham Aliyev emphasized that, on this wonderful holiday, he wanted to once again highlight what a great nation the Azerbaijani people are:

“Only a great nation could demonstrate such determination despite all the suffering and hardships, despite 30 years of occupation, and despite the threats from major powers standing behind Armenia. The people showed their will and supported me, making our Victory possible.

As we celebrate this wonderful holiday, each of us rightfully feels proud. At the same time, we respectfully commemorate the dear memory of our martyrs who sacrificed their lives along this path. I am certain that each of us tells ourselves: We must be so strong that no one would even think of harming Azerbaijan again! I am confident that this will be the case.

Today, Azerbaijan is a strong state – politically, economically and militarily independent of anyone, pursuing an independent policy and upholding its dignity”.
