United States President Donald Trump said he would be happy to run for a third term if legislation were changed to allow him to participate in presidential elections again.

Trump made the remarks while addressing his supporters in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, TodayPress TV reports, citing Roll Call.

“We have rules and laws that say you’re not allowed to run. If they want to change that, I would be very happy,” Trump said.

Under the current US Constitution, a president may not serve more than two terms. The 22nd Amendment to the Constitution, adopted in 1951, establishes this restriction.

Under current legislation, Trump’s second presidential term is due to end in January 2029. However, the US president has repeatedly not ruled out attempting to secure the right to run for a third term.

Trump became US president again in November 2024 after defeating Democratic Party candidate Kamala Harris. He previously served as president from 2017 to 2021.
