“We will destroy Spain” – Trump issues harsh statement
U.S. President Donald Trump has issued a harsh statement targeting Spain.
TodayPress TV reports that Trump criticized Madrid for refusing to accept the commitment to increase defence spending within NATO and for not supporting U.S. military operations against Iran.
The U.S. president said it was unacceptable that Spain had failed to commit to raising its defence spending to 5% of GDP, as required of NATO members.
Trump has previously accused Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez of failing to make a sufficient contribution to NATO.
The U.S. president also expressed his dissatisfaction with Madrid’s refusal to support Washington’s military operations against Iran.
It should be noted that disagreements between the United States and Spain over NATO defence spending have intensified in recent months. Spain has maintained that it can meet the capabilities required by NATO without reaching the 5% target.
