Years-long dispute comes to an end: Chile and Argentina reach agreement

The latest border dispute between Chile and Argentina over the Strait of Magellan has been resolved.

The issue was settled between the two countries following the fifth regional meeting of the Madrid Forum, held in Santiago.

Following a meeting between Argentine President Javier Milei and Chilean President José Antonio Kast, Buenos Aires reaffirmed Chile’s sovereignty over the Strait of Magellan.

In return, Chile announced its support for Argentina’s territorial claims over the Falkland Islands.

Thus, the two sides have clarified their respective positions on a territorial dispute that has remained a sensitive issue for many years.
