Belarus declares Armenian cognac “dangerous”

Belarus’s State Committee for Standardization has banned the sale of Armenian “Yerevan 2800” brandy, TodayPress TV reports.

The decision was reportedly made because the product does not comply with the requirements of the Customs Union’s technical regulations. According to the State Committee for Standardization’s registry, the eight-year-old “Yerevan 2800” brandy produced by MAP CJSC, based in Armenia’s Armavir Province, has been classified as a dangerous product.

According to the committee, laboratory tests found that the mass concentration of tanning substances in the brandy was below the permitted level. While the regulatory requirement is at least 0.3 g/dm³, the product recorded a level of 0.14 ± 0.01 g/dm³.

The Belarusian State Committee for Standardization noted that although the product had the appearance and characteristics typical of a particular type of product, the tests did not allow it to be identified as the product it was presented as.
