Zelensky and Costa reach agreement – “By the end of the year…”

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met with European Council President António Costa during his visit to Madrid.

TodayPress TV reports that Zelensky announced the meeting on his official Telegram channel.

The two leaders discussed Ukraine’s European integration process and the possibility of opening the negotiation clusters for EU membership as soon as possible.

“We are working to open all negotiation clusters by the end of this year and move on to closing the negotiation chapters next year, making rapid progress towards our membership. We discussed new ideas that could genuinely accelerate the entire process. We agreed that António would discuss these issues with Ursula von der Leyen”,- Zelensky said.

Zelensky also briefed Costa on his discussions with the US side regarding preparations for a trilateral meeting in Abu Dhabi.

“Ukraine has always supported Europe’s presence at the negotiating table. When it comes to security guarantees and Ukraine’s economic recovery, these issues cannot be discussed without European representatives. António also supports our position”,-he added.
