Breaking: Tens of thousands take to the streets in Paris

Thousands of demonstrators have taken to the streets of Paris in a mass protest organised by trade unions against rising prices and the government’s planned austerity measures.

TodayPress TV reports that tens of thousands of people gathered at Place de la République before the demonstration set off towards Place de la Nation.

The square was so crowded that the large turnout could barely be accommodated in the available space.

Many protesters carried placards criticising government policies and calling for an end to police violence. Some participants also demanded equal rights for all students in schools.
