German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has spoken about an attempted drone attack on Leipzig Airport and threatened those behind the incident with consequences, TodayPress TV reports, citing Bild.
Merz said, “You will pay the price.”
He stressed that Germany is increasingly becoming a target of hybrid attacks.
According to the chancellor, such attacks can cause not only significant material damage but also injuries and loss of life. Merz said the government was strengthening the country’s defence capabilities, including by establishing a centre for combating drones.
Merz also said that authorities, together with the intelligence services, were continuing to determine who was behind the incident in Leipzig.
However, the issue of identifying those responsible for the incident will not be discussed at the upcoming government meeting.
“We will present this information and make a statement on the matter soon,” the German chancellor promised.
