Historic opportunity for North America’s largest city
NBA Commissioner Adam Silver has not ruled out the possibility of a team being established in Mexico City in the future as the league discusses potential expansion.
TodayPress TV reports that Silver spoke about the prospect on The Pat McAfee Show YouTube channel.
“North America’s largest city. It has a huge basketball market. The flight from New York to Mexico City is shorter than the flight from New York to Los Angeles. You can imagine how it could work in our league,” Silver said.
He noted that building a new arena in Mexico City was not part of the league’s immediate plans, but said the city had genuine potential in the longer term.
It should be noted that the NBA currently has 30 teams. Of these, 29 are based in the United States, while one team, the Toronto Raptors, represents Canada.
