Syria will not send troops to Yemen – Damascus responds to reports

Reports about the deployment of Syrian troops to Yemen do not reflect the truth.

TodayPress TV reports that this was stated by a diplomatic source cited by the SANA news agency while commenting on military agreements between Syria and Saudi Arabia.

“Any talk at this stage about sending Syrian military units to Yemen is completely unfounded. Syria’s priorities in the near future are strengthening internal security, rebuilding the country and achieving economic growth”,- the source said.

According to the source, the agreements currently in force with Saudi Arabia provide for military personnel training, exchange of experience and military consultations. In particular, visits by a Saudi delegation to Syria are planned for next month to coordinate activities.

The source also said that in the future, this cooperation could develop into a joint defence agreement or lead to Syria joining the Mecca Pact.
