Russia has not closed the door on Armenia: Everything now depends on Yerevan
Russia is ready to continue military cooperation with Armenia.
TodayPress TV reports that Russian Ambassador to Armenia Sergey Kopyrkin stated this in an interview with Public Radio of Armenia.
The diplomat said there was no reason to be overly pessimistic about the issue. According to him, the future of cooperation will depend on the political will of both sides.
Kopyrkin also stressed the importance of establishing a new balance in Russia-Armenia relations. He noted that existing ties across various areas of bilateral cooperation should be discussed and adjusted accordingly.
The ambassador said Russia was also ready to cooperate with Armenia in the fields of nuclear energy and transport, taking into account the country’s interests and needs.
Commenting on Armenia’s policy of moving closer to the European Union, the diplomat said that the right to choose belonged to Armenia and the Armenian people. He added that Russia wanted this choice to be made as soon as possible.
Kopyrkin also addressed temporary restrictions imposed on imports of certain Armenian products into Russia. He said inspections had highlighted the need to strengthen efforts to ensure that products comply with the Russian market’s sanitary and phytosanitary requirements.
