Jeyhun Bayramov: Middle Corridor’s role in international trade is growing
Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov participated in and addressed a meeting of foreign ministers of Central Asian states and foreign ministers held in the “Avaza” National Tourism Zone as part of his working visit to Turkmenistan.
TodayPress TV reports that the information was provided by Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA).
Jeyhun Bayramov emphasized the importance of holding the meeting ahead of the high-level summit in terms of conducting preliminary discussions on key areas of cooperation. It was noted that Azerbaijan’s admission last year as a full member of the Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia demonstrated deepening integration processes based on historical and cultural ties, mutual trust and common strategic interests among the countries.
Against the backdrop of growing global instability, geopolitical competition and disruptions to supply chains, the minister stressed the need to deepen regional cooperation to ensure the economic and energy security of states. In this context, the importance of equal and trust-based political dialogue among participants in the C6 format, as well as expanding trade and mutual investment, was highlighted.
Touching on cooperation in strategically important transport and energy sectors, the minister noted the growing role of the Middle Corridor in establishing sustainable links between East and West and in international trade. He also emphasized the importance of the developing strategic partnership among the countries in the production and transmission of green energy, as well as transport and digital connectivity projects, for fully realizing the region’s potential.
The address also placed particular emphasis on the environmental agenda. Serious concern was expressed over the consequences of climate change, the Aral Sea and water-related problems, as well as the negative impact of the continued decline in the level of the Caspian Sea on coastal infrastructure and the environment. The importance of a systematic scientific approach, information exchange and regional cooperation in addressing these challenges was highlighted.
In conclusion, Minister Jeyhun Bayramov expressed confidence that the documents to be adopted and agreements to be reached following the meeting would provide a clear direction for long-term cooperation in the future.
Azerbaijan once again reaffirmed its readiness to actively contribute to strengthening this format and implementing the tasks set out.
