US forces may have established a secret maritime corridor for oil exports through the Strait of Hormuz.

TodayPress TV reports that Axios wrote about this, citing sources in the US administration.

According to the source, 15–20 tankers pass through the corridor every day, delivering approximately 10 million barrels of oil to the global market daily. Axios adds that the operation has been carried out over the past two months via a southern route along the coast of Oman.

According to the publication, the secret operation is being led by a special group operating within the headquarters of the US Army’s 82nd Airborne Division, with the support of partners in the Gulf countries. US forces are reportedly coordinating the passage of both loaded and empty vessels bound for ports in the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Kuwait. According to Axios, the tankers travel at night in designated convoys and are escorted by US fighter jets.

US President Donald Trump has repeatedly spoken about Washington’s claims regarding the Strait of Hormuz. On August 13, he said that US forces had full control over the waterway. According to Trump, Iran has neither a navy nor an air force, while the remaining military personnel “are not getting paid.” He added that Tehran has “only fake news and 300 percent inflation” and that the situation is “getting worse.”

Earlier, Trump said that the importance of the Strait of Hormuz would soon decline.
