Pope Leo XIV: “Let us not lose our humanity in a paradise of machines”

Pope Leo XIV warned about the impact of artificial intelligence and technology on human life on the first day of his visit to France.

TodayPress TV reports that, speaking during a meeting with French leaders at the Élysée Palace, the Pope said that in modern society, “intelligence” is increasingly associated with computational systems, while it is becoming more difficult to recognize the inherent dignity of the human person.

“If we do not want to lose our humanity amid the ‘paradise of machines’ that invades and conditions our daily lives, there is an urgent need for education in ethical discernment and the ability to recognize moral good,” Leo XIV said.

Why is artificial intelligence one of Pope Leo’s main concerns?

Since the beginning of his papacy, Leo XIV has kept the development of artificial intelligence and its impact on society at the center of his attention.

He had said that one of the reasons he chose his papal name was that Leo XIII had faced the changes brought about by the Industrial Revolution. According to Leo XIV, the world is now facing a new industrial revolution driven by the rapid development of artificial intelligence.

His first encyclical also emphasized the importance of preventing artificial intelligence from establishing control over human beings.
