Europe backtracks on major promise – Warning from Tbilisi
The Georgian authorities doubt that Brussels is genuinely committed to expanding the European Union (EU).
TodayPress TV reports that Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili told journalists about this.
“Unfortunately, there is a trend of Brussels gradually backtracking on its promise regarding the expansion of the European Union. There is significant doubt about this among the candidate countries. And we see that, at best, they will agree to the membership of Montenegro and perhaps Albania. However, I do not think that some EU leaders are sincere in their statements about expansion concerning other countries,” Papuashvili emphasized.
He also noted that after military operations began in 2022, Ukraine was promised that it would join the EU soon, with some European Union leaders pointing to January 1, 2027, as the date for Ukraine’s accession. According to Papuashvili, that date is approaching, and it is clear that no one is preparing to admit Ukraine to the EU.
