Historic triumph for Fils: Follows in the footsteps of Sinner and Alcaraz
French tennis player Arthur Fils, 22, has won the Cincinnati Masters tournament, achieving another notable milestone, TodayPress TV reports, citing OptaAce.
Fils is the third active player to win the Cincinnati Masters before turning 23.
Italian Jannik Sinner and Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz had previously achieved the feat.
Fils defeated American Frances Tiafoe 6-3, 1-6, 6-0 in the final. The match lasted 1 hour and 28 minutes.
For the victory, the Frenchman added 1,000 points to his ranking, while Tiafoe earned 650 points.
It should be noted that the Cincinnati tournament was held from August 13 to 23. The total prize pool for the men’s singles competition was $9.4 million.
