“Electronic Gate Border Control System” launched at Baku airport
The State Border Service (SBS) has launched the “Electronic Gate Border Control System” (automated passport control and biometric identification system) at Heydar Aliyev International Airport, TodayPress TV reports.
The system enables Azerbaijani citizens aged 18 and over to pass through border control more quickly and conveniently.
The border control process through the electronic gate is carried out automatically in several main stages. After the passenger presents their identity document to the relevant scanning device, the system automatically reads the information contained in the document, performs the necessary checks against relevant information systems, and identifies the individual based on biometric data.
Once all information is confirmed to match, the electronic gate opens automatically and the passenger completes the border control process. The process takes approximately 20 seconds through the electronic gate.
The introduction of the system enables the automation of key stages of border control, reduces passengers’ waiting times at border crossing points, increases the flexibility and efficiency of control procedures, and minimizes the human factor.
The “Electronic Gate Border Control System” has initially been launched in the arrivals hall of Heydar Aliyev International Airport.
At the next stage, the system is planned to be introduced at other state border crossing points.
