President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has addressed participants of the 2nd Meeting of Heads of Intellectual Property Offices of the Member States of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS).

TodayPress TV reports that the address reads:

“Dear participants of the event,

I cordially welcome you to Baku for the 2nd Meeting of Heads of Intellectual Property Offices of the Member States of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS).

Azerbaijan has always mobilised all its efforts, particularly during its chairmanship of the OTS, to strengthen the organisation institutionally, enhance its standing on the global stage and foster closer unity within our common family — the Turkic world.

Located at the heart of the historic Silk Road, the Turkic world has throughout history been home to great personalities, scholars and thinkers. The rich scientific and cultural heritage of our peoples, our vast human capital and growing innovation potential create opportunities for cooperation in intellectual property to develop as a distinct area of collaboration within the OTS and for closer interaction in this field. In this regard, the organisation of meetings of the heads of the relevant institutions is commendable. The first meeting, held in Bishkek last year, was an important step in this direction.

The rapid development of artificial intelligence, digitalisation and other new solutions is creating new challenges for intellectual property systems. In this process, alongside making effective use of the opportunities offered by technological progress, it is particularly important to strike an optimal balance between ensuring reliable protection of the rights of authors and inventors, promoting innovation and safeguarding the interests of society.

Azerbaijan is consistently implementing measures to accelerate digital transformation and strengthen scientific research and the pool of qualified specialists in order to expand the application of artificial intelligence.

Protecting the shared cultural heritage of Turkic peoples and preventing its appropriation and distortion should be among the leading priorities of our joint efforts. The foundations of intellectual property rights in Azerbaijan were laid at the initiative of National Leader Heydar Aliyev and further developed in subsequent years.

I am confident that the discussions and initiatives put forward at the Baku meeting will help elevate cooperation among intellectual property institutions to a new level and create a favourable environment for comprehensive development, ensuring that the Turkic world does not fall behind in global competition.

I wish you every success in the work of the event.”
