Ukraine’s financial reserves are nearing exhaustion, and the European Union must provide assistance to Kyiv.

TodayPress TV reports that Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen made the statement, according to the Interfax news agency.

According to Frederiksen, Ukraine can neither purchase nor produce the military equipment it needs. She noted that Kyiv urgently requires financial assistance for 2026, as well as guarantees that it will receive funding in 2027.

A few days ago, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced that a new tranche of €2.86 billion would be allocated to Ukraine under the defence component of the financial assistance package.

Under the Ukraine Support Loan, covering 2026–2027 and totalling €90 billion, €60 billion is intended for defence needs and strengthening military-industrial capacity, while €30 billion is earmarked for direct budget support.

The European Commission plans to allocate a total of €28.3 billion in 2026 to strengthen Ukraine’s defence-industrial capacity.
