Removal of Russian oligarchs from sanctions list divides EU

European Commissioner for Economy Valdis Dombrovskis has said that a certain degree of fatigue has emerged within the European Union over the sanctions imposed on Russia.

TodayPress TV reports that Dombrovskis made the remarks in an interview with Euractiv, saying that “there is a certain degree of fatigue after five years of the Russia-Ukraine conflict.”

He made the comments while discussing the removal of Russian businessmen Alisher Usmanov and Mikhail Fridman, as well as former rector of the Crimean Federal University Andrey Falaleyev, from the EU’s sanctions list against Russia.

According to Dombrovskis, changing the requirement for unanimity in decisions on the imposition of sanctions does not appear likely in the near future. Nevertheless, the German government and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen have called for the principle to be changed.
