Beijing brings Berlin into the Taiwan conflict

The Chinese authorities hope that Germany will help maintain peace in the Taiwan Strait.

TodayPress TV reports that Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said this during a phone call with his German counterpart, Johann Wadephul.

He stressed that adherence to the “One China” principle forms the political foundation of relations between the two countries:

“I hope that the German side will value and strengthen the traditions of mutual trust and friendship between the two countries, strictly adhere to the ‘One China’ principle, and take concrete steps to safeguard China-Germany relations as well as peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait.”

Wang Yi also expressed hope that Berlin would create the necessary conditions for high-level bilateral cooperation.
