Oil spill reported at sea off Mexico, pipeline shut down

An oil spill has occurred from an offshore pipeline located 46 nautical miles from Ciudad del Carmen in Mexico’s Campeche state.

TodayPress TV reports that Mexico’s state-owned oil and gas company Pemex is working to contain the incident with the support of the country’s Navy.

Pemex provided information on the measures taken after crude oil was detected at sea 46 nautical miles from Ciudad del Carmen, Campeche state. Immediate measures were taken to isolate the pipeline by reducing pressure and closing safety valves. Oil pumping through the pipeline has been suspended since then, and the crude oil leak has been stopped.

The company added that the incident was recorded on September 10 in the hydrocarbon gathering network receiving output from five production platforms: Ek-TA, Balam-TA, Balam-A, Balam-TB and Balam-TA2. Specialized vessels were promptly deployed to the site.
