Saeed Jalili, Iran’s former chief nuclear negotiator and representative of the Supreme Leader on national security affairs, has stressed the importance of ending the war and protecting the country from the threat of another conflict.

TodayPress TV reports, citing The Iran Watcher, that Jalili’s remarks have attracted attention.

Jalili is known as one of the most outspoken supporters of confrontation with the United States and Israel. He had previously opposed concessions to the West, arguing that military resistance would force Iran’s adversaries to back down.

His latest statement has fuelled discussions about a possible shift in attitudes towards continuing the war in Iran.

Iran has lost senior officials during the war, while its military infrastructure has suffered significant damage. Economic difficulties, inflation and the depreciation of the national currency have also increased pressure on the country.

Differences are reportedly emerging within the ruling establishment over negotiations with the United States and the future course of the war.

Jalili’s statement does not necessarily mean that he is abandoning Iran’s ideological line. Nevertheless, it indicates that ending the war and preventing future attacks are becoming important considerations even for supporters of a hard-line approach.
