The United States has proposed unlocking part of Russia’s frozen sovereign assets, transferring them to a fund under Washington’s control and directing the funds towards Ukraine’s reconstruction. The proposal is reportedly aimed at reviving peace negotiations in Ukraine.

TodayPress TV reports, citing the Financial Times, that the proposal was put forward by Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner during talks held in Miami last week.

However, European officials have opposed the initiative. They have rejected transferring control over the frozen assets to the United States and returning any portion of the funds to Moscow.

According to the report, approximately €260 billion in Russian assets is currently frozen, with the bulk of the funds held in European Union countries.
