Tense moments at the UN: Race for secretary-general post

The UN Security Council has held the fifth round of a straw poll on candidates for the position of UN secretary-general.

TodayPress TV reports that the information was provided by Greece’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Aglaya Balta, whose country holds the presidency of the Security Council in October.

“The fifth round of the straw poll has taken place. Each candidate will be informed of their results through the permanent representatives of the countries that nominated them. The President of the General Assembly will also be informed that the poll has been conducted,” she told journalists at the UN headquarters.

The poll was again conducted using ballots that did not indicate whether the country casting each ballot was a permanent member of the Council.
