US may close its embassy in Kyiv and leave
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has not ruled out suspending the operations of the US Embassy in Ukraine amid Russian airstrikes on Kyiv.
TodayPress TV reports that Rubio spoke about this while addressing journalists.
He said the US authorities would decide whether it is safe for American diplomats to remain in Kyiv.
“They have been saying this for months, they have been warning diplomats for months about leaving. I don’t think anyone should be surprised that Kyiv is being hit,” Rubio said.
The Secretary of State added that the US Department of State assesses the security of diplomatic missions around the world every day. However, no threat requiring a change in the status of the embassy in Kyiv has been identified at present.
It should be noted that Russia had previously warned Western countries about the safety of their diplomats working in Kyiv.
