Million-euro dispute continues: Juventus keeps up legal battle against Ronaldo
Italian football club Juventus has taken a new step in its legal dispute with Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo. The Turin-based club has appealed to Italy’s Supreme Court against the ruling requiring it to pay the footballer €9.8 million.
La Gazzetta dello Sport reported this, TodayPress TV reports.
The club has filed an appeal on points of law and is now awaiting the scheduling of the next court hearings.
The legal proceedings, which have been ongoing since 2021, have now reached the third judicial instance.
In April 2024, an arbitration tribunal ruled that Ronaldo should receive half of the €19.6 million he had claimed — €9.8 million, including interest and indexation. In January 2026, a court in Turin rejected Juventus’s objections and upheld the ruling. The club maintains that the court examined only the formal aspects of the arbitration process rather than the merits of the case.
The dispute dates back to the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2021, the club’s management reached an agreement with Ronaldo to defer €19.5 million in salary payments. However, the amount was not reflected in the club’s accounts, despite being revealed during searches conducted as part of the Prisma investigation. The document became known as the “Ronaldo document”.
The scandal also led to the resignation of club president Andrea Agnelli and the entire board of directors.
