From Formula 2 to the big stage: Leonardo Fornaroli to drive McLaren’s hypercar
Reigning Formula 2 champion Leonardo Fornaroli will join the British manufacturer’s team in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) for the 2027 season.
TodayPress TV reports that McLaren has officially announced the move.
The Italian driver will make his WEC debut in 2027 behind the wheel of the McLaren MCL-HY hypercar, including competing in the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans.
He will be joined by Mikkel Jensen, Alex Lynn and 2024 WEC champion Laurens Vanthoor.
Alongside this move, Fornaroli will retain his role as reserve driver for McLaren’s Formula 1 team.
“Joining McLaren’s Hypercar programme is an incredibly important and exciting step in my career. I’m grateful that my work as a reserve driver has given me such a wonderful opportunity,” Fornaroli said.
