Conference on preserving historical and religious monuments to be held in Baku

A conference titled “Preservation of Historical and Religious Monuments: Challenges and Prospects” will be held in Baku. The declaration of 2026 as the “Year of Urban Planning and Architecture” in Azerbaijan by a relevant Order of President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev creates new opportunities for approaching the protection and restoration of historical and cultural heritage sites, including religious architectural monuments, within the context of urban planning, as well as expanding public awareness efforts in this field.

TodayPress TV reports that, within this framework, the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the State Committee for Work with Religious Organizations will jointly organize a conference titled “Preservation of Historical and Religious Monuments: Challenges and Prospects” on September 17.

The event will be attended by heads of relevant state institutions, members of the Milli Majlis, academics, specialists working in the field, as well as representatives of the public.

The conference will discuss modern approaches to the preservation and restoration of religious and cultural heritage sites, the role of religious communities in their protection, as well as the significance of restored religious architectural monuments in the urban environment of the liberated territories.

Panel sessions titled “Preservation of Cultural and Religious Heritage: Law, Practice and Opportunities” and “The Importance of Historical and Religious Sites in Promoting Traditions of Tolerance and Multiculturalism” will also be held as part of the event.
