Was a ship carrying Azerbaijanis hit by a submarine? – Claims emerge over the horrific tragedy

Eight people have died and more than 237 have been rescued after a passenger ship crashed off the coast of Kyrenia in Northern Cyprus. All possible causes of the incident, including an accident, technical failure and sabotage, are being investigated.

TodayPress TV, citing Turkish media outlets, reports that a foreign submarine was reportedly spotted in the same area approximately 15 days before the explosion on the catamaran-type vessel.

According to the claims, this has raised the possibility of sabotage.

Northern Cyprus Minister of Public Works and Transport Erhan Arıklı said the vessel had undergone a technical inspection 2.5 months ago and that the captain had 25 years of experience.

Security sources in Cyprus said the possibility that the vessel was targeted with an explosive brought from outside is also among the scenarios being investigated. The exact cause of the incident will be determined following a technical examination.

It should be noted that two Azerbaijani citizens were reportedly among those rescued after the accident.

Search and rescue operations are continuing. It has not been ruled out that there may be missing people and that bodies could have been carried as far as the Syrian coast.
