A helicopter belonging to NBC News crashed in flames during a live broadcast while covering a deadly accident in the Chatsworth area of Los Angeles, where an SUV collided with a bus, killing at least two people.

TodayPress TV reports, citing Qafqazinfo, that at least three people aboard the helicopter are reported to have died in the incident, which resulted in shocking footage.

Images from the scene show two containers and numerous vehicles engulfed in flames. Firefighters said the blaze had been extinguished.

The crash occurred shortly before 19:00 local time on Tuesday at the intersection of Lurlayne Avenue and Nordhoff Street.

The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed that the crashed helicopter did not belong to them. It is not yet known who was operating the helicopter or what caused the crash.

The investigation into the incident will be conducted by the National Transportation Safety Board.
