Is a war in space beginning? – Erdoğan warns the world

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has spoken out against the militarization of space and its transformation into an instrument of an arms race, calling it a threat to the common future of humanity.

TodayPress TV reports that he made the remarks at the opening of the 77th International Astronautical Congress in Antalya.

“Placing weapons in space in particular and turning it into an instrument of an arms race is extremely wrong. It is even dangerous. This clearly poses a threat to the common future of humanity. We have recently seen this issue gaining widespread attention, and we consider this to be wrong,” Erdoğan said.

Speaking about Türkiye’s near-term plans in the field of space exploration, Erdoğan announced that a key stage in the development of the country’s national lunar mission had been completed.

“We have completed the production, assembly and integration of the lunar spacecraft that we developed as part of our lunar research program. We are currently conducting tests against external environmental conditions,” he said.
