Hikmet Hajiyev: Azerbaijan is a reliable partner of the US in the South Caucasus

Azerbaijan is a reliable partner of the United States in the South Caucasus region.

TodayPress TV reports that Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan and Head of the Foreign Policy Affairs Department of the Presidential Administration Hikmet Hajiyev said this in an interview with Newsmax.

According to him, US President Donald Trump’s efforts to achieve peace between Baku and Yerevan have changed the strategic landscape of the South Caucasus and opened a new era in relations between Azerbaijan and the United States:

“President Trump and his coming to power completely changed cooperation and partnership between the United States and Azerbaijan. And most importantly, it is peace. He brought peace to the South Caucasus region. President Trump’s leadership enabled him to use his political weight in this process and bring Armenia and Azerbaijan to peace.”

At the same time, Hajiyev recalled an important date for the South Caucasus — August 8, 2025, when, in the presence of President Donald Trump at the White House, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan signed a historic joint declaration aimed at ending the conflict that had lasted for more than 30 years.

He emphasized that Donald Trump’s personal involvement made it possible to achieve a result that international diplomacy had failed to achieve for decades.

Speaking about Azerbaijan-US relations, Hajiyev noted that the current US administration had laid the foundation for a “new era” in strategic partnership with Azerbaijan:

“President Donald Trump and President Ilham Aliyev have proposed a new era in strategic partnership between the United States and Azerbaijan and agreed to prepare a new memorandum on strategic partnership between the two countries.”

He added that the United States had “kept its promise” when Vice President J.D. Vance visited Azerbaijan and signed the document on strategic partnership:

“Strategic friendship, cooperation and partnership between the United States and Azerbaijan have a strong foundation and will continue to develop in a region of geopolitical importance. Azerbaijan remains a reliable and trusted partner of the United States.”
